Hi! I’m David Halls — a strategic communication specialist, modern jazz pianist and instructor‑coach who helps people grow in their business communication skills and music.

My work sits at the intersection of clarity, creativity and connection. Whether I’m helping people shape messages that drive business outcomes or creating music that moves people, the goal is the same: meaningful connection.
Developing comms that drives outcomes
I’m the creator of the Bullseye Method, a practical, outcome‑driven approach to message design that I wrote about in my book Bullseye! Getting the RIGHT Message to the RIGHT Audience. The method has been validated through university studies and shown to improve communication success and productivity. As Dr Joe Vitale wrote in the foreword, Bullseye “takes away the mystery of what makes great communication and shows you how to become a great communicator.”
Bringing Blues, Latin and funk flavoured jazz to the stage
But communication is only one side of what I do. I’m also a contemporary jazz pianist, shaped by years of mentorship under the late Serge Ermoll — a legendary force in the Sydney jazz scene. Serge shared stories and lessons from playing with icons like Dizzy Gillespie, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, Sonny Stitt, Jimmy Witherspoon, Ernestine Anderson, Branford Marsalis and many more. His greatest lesson to me was simple: “This is how I play — now go and do it your own way.” Principles matter, but individuality matters more.
Teaching principals that honour the individual
That idea sits at the heart of both my communication work and my music. In communication, I help people find their own voice — clear, purposeful and outcome‑driven. In music, I explore modern groove‑based jazz that’s warm, expressive and human — and I teach these principles to musicians who want to develop their own sound and creative identity.
